What to expect?

During this session, New Finance professor Martijn van der Linden will guide you through three core stories where we will unravel these complex themes. After each story, there will be ample time for questions and discussion.

  1. Macroeconomics: is there danger of a recession?
Discover the fundamentals of the current macroeconomy and understand how economic growth, recessions, and debt influence each other. Learn why economic fluctuations occur and what their consequences are for our daily lives.
  2. Fiat money: how do I protect my purchasing power?
Explore the world of fiat money and understand the role of central and private banks. Learn how inflation and deflation affect our purchasing power and how financial crises can arise and be managed.
  3. Digital assets: will the euro ever disappear?
Dive into the emerging world of digital assets like bitcoin, CBDC’s and decentralized finance. Understand how these technologies work and how they can offer an alternative to traditional financial systems.

After this session, you will have a better understanding of these economic concepts and practical insights to help you make more informed financial decisions.

Since 2018, Dr. Martijn van der Linden has been professor New Finance at THUAS. His research focuses on the development of public digital money (referred to as CBDCs by central bankers), stablecoins, cryptocurrencies, financial instability, the liberalization and re-regulation of banking, integrated reporting (CSRD, CSDD), and long-term value investing.
