What stories do we tell each other?

This is where it begins.
With a conversation, a meeting.
I want to know what brought you here.
I want to break through that drop ceiling and point you toward your dreams.

In his solo show MOED (English: COURAGE), actor and teacher Mahfoud Mokaddem takes you into his classroom at mbo 1. He introduces you to Reza, Dayenne, Teun, and all the other students for whom no one ever raises a flag. Mahfoud recognizes himself in them. Because once, he was just like them: a boy who always sat in the back. In class, on the bus, in society.

MOED is stand-up storytelling and tells the story of that one teacher who truly sees you, of students who deserve a push forward, and colleagues who just don’t get you. The performance is filled with hip-hop beats, video art, and stories from both students and teachers who struggle to connect with the school system and ask themselves: what am I doing it for?

The performance is brought to The Hague University of Applied Sciences as part of our knowlegde agenda theme “Just Society” because it’s time to reflect on inequality of opportunity in education. The show will be introduced by our own staff, and afterward, we’ll have a conversation about this important topic.

The performance and the following conversation are in Dutch, but we’ve made sure English speakers can easily follow along.

Free admission for all students and staff, as always! Just make sure to register in advance.
