What are we going to do?

We're going to watch movies! And of course, we'll discuss them together afterward. The first two and the last film have already been chosen, but you get to suggest the other films. From your suggestions, we'll pick the ones to show. If your film is selected, you'll introduce it and explain why you chose it. After the screening, we'll have a discussion about the movie, covering its content, technique, and cinematography.

We'll also host workshops and lectures to dive deeper into various aspects of filmmaking. Plus, it’s a great place to meet new people who share your passion for film.

Your hosts of the Film Club are Thijs Bos and Chris Heydra. Together they have 13 years of experience with film analysis and also taught courses and workshops at The Hague University of Applied Sciences and the Royal Academy of Art (KABK). Together they will guide you to see what others do not quickly notice in film. But beware, once you know the subtle tricks of the film you will never watch a movie the same again.

Parasite

Parasite (Korean: 기생충; RR: Gisaengchung) is a 2019 South Korean black comedy thriller film directed by Bong Joon-ho, who co-wrote the film with Han Jin-won. The film follows a poor family who infiltrate the life of a wealthy family.

The script is based on a play Bong wrote in 2013. He later adapted it into a 15-page film draft, and Han split it into three different drafts. Bong said he was inspired by the 1960 Korean film The Housemaid and by the Christine and Léa Papin incident in the 1930s. Filming began in May 2018 and finished that September.

Parasite premiered at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival on 21 May 2019, where it became the first Korean film to win its top prize, the Palme d'Or. It grossed $262 million worldwide on a $11.4 million budget.
