Former PhD student Dr Lonneke Frie receives Best Dissertation Award
Last week, Dr Lonneke Frie, former PhD student of the Sustainable Talent Development Research Group, received the prestigious Best Dissertation Award at the 13th international conference of the Dutch HRM Network in Rotterdam.
Her dissertation, entitled ‘From expert to flexpert: How workers meet new expertise needs throughout their careers’, was praised for both its high scientific quality and valuable insights for practice. Frie defended her thesis last December at Radboud University.
The jury emphasised the social relevance of her research: how can we ensure that the expertise of workers remains of sustainable value, especially in a rapidly changing labour market? This theme touches on current issues around upskilling, reskilling and deskilling of workers, and is also of great importance for people distanced from the labour market. Frie examined which factors motivate people to meet this changing demand for expertise and develop into ‘flex experts’. She also described how flexibility can be stimulated through a process of self-renewal.
With her thesis, Dr Frie offers an innovative perspective on sustainable employability. The concept of ‘flexpertise’ contributes to a future in which people can continue to work not only productively, but also Happy and Healthy. Her insights are a valuable addition for organisations striving for an inclusive and sustainable work culture.
