The European Association for International Education (EAIE) has launched a brand new Research Committee focused on advancing internationalisation in higher education. THUAS researchers Simone Hackett and Lector Jos Beelen (Research Group Global Learning) have been elected to serve on this prestigious committee, with Simone appointed as Chair of the committee. This leadership role underscores their expertise and influence in the field of internationalisation, positioning them to shape research and policy at the forefront of global higher education.

The European Association for International Education (EAIE)

The EAIE, founded in 1989, is Europe’s largest and most influential network for international education, connecting professionals worldwide to foster collaboration and improve the quality of higher education. With over 7,000 participants at its annual conference and more than 3000 members, the EAIE is a hub for networking, professional development, and knowledge-sharing across higher education. The association’s new research agenda focuses on key areas such as global mobility, equity, policy advocacy, teaching methods, cross-cultural communication, digitalisation, and environmental sustainability. The aim is to provide deep insights into internationalisation and research, guide policy, connect and support the professional growth of those in the field.

What Does this mean for THUAS?

Simone and Jos’ roles within the EAIE Research Committee bring significant benefits to THUAS. Their leadership raises the university's profile internationally, positioning it as a key player in research on internationalisation.  They will have direct influence on the direction of internationalisation research, ensuring that THUAS is at the cutting edge of global trends. This involvement offers valuable insights to inform the THUAS’ own internationalisation strategy and boost its global competitiveness. In her capacity as Chair, Simone will guide the research committee's direction, collaborate with other EAIE committee Chairs, and engage with the EAIE Board to discuss key issues in internationalisation research.  Through the committee, Simone and Jos will facilitate connections with leading international experts, policymakers, and academics, opening the door to potential research collaborations and partnerships. This position will help elevate THUAS’ visibility on the global stage, attracting research funding, academic and collaborators and funding partners.

How can THUAS researchers benefit?

For THUAS researchers, joining the EAIE provides access to a wealth of research resources related to internationalisation, including a comprehensive library and global collaboration opportunities. EAIE members can also contribute to the association’s blog and quarterly magazine, promoting their own research to an international audience. While submitting articles doesn’t require membership, accessing some of EAIE’s exclusive resources does. THUAS is part of an institutional EAIE membership, so researchers can explore funding opportunities through their programmes or personal development funds to cover membership costs. Additionally, there’s a discount rate for professionals under 35.
