Jos Beelen’s research interests include internationalisation at home and the skills of academics to internationalise teaching and learning. He holds a PhD from the Centre for Higher Education Internationalisation (CHEI) at Universitá Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan. In 2018, Jos was the recipient of the President’s Award of the European Association for International Education (EAIE) for his contribution to internationalisation at home. Jos is Visiting Professor at Coventry University and at Western Norway University of Applied Sciences. He is a Research Fellow at the University of the Free State (South Africa).

After receiving her PhD from Leiden University, Ellen began working in the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management at the Delft University of Technology. She has been a project leader for various research projects about e-learning and information management in higher education and at companies. She is also involved in EU projects like Learn RDM in the SME. The first research group she headed at The Hague University of Applied Sciences was the one known as Knowledge Infrastructure for Science and Technology. Ellen also participates in various networks such as the Stichting HRM Lectorennetwerk Nederland and the board of the IACEE (International Association for Continuing Engineering Education). Ellen Sjoer heads the Sustainable Talent Development Research Group since 2011.

Theo Bakker has a broad background. He studied Theology, Informatics, and Management Consulting. He obtained his PhD in Clinical Developmental Psychology on the study progress and study success of students with autism.

Since 2004 study data have been the thread running through Theo’s career. Initially with implementing educational administrations and later using the information from these systems in the context of study success. He joined the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU) in 2014 via the University of Amsterdam and Deloitte Consulting. In 2022, he obtained his PhD for his thesis’ Study Progression and Success of Autistic Students in Higher Education, A Longitudinal, Propensity Score-Weighted Population Study’.

In 2021, Theo started at The Hague University of Applied Sciences as director of the Education, Knowledge & Communication department. After his PhD, he combines all his knowledge and experience as a Learning Technology & Analytics professor. In addition, Theo works as a university lecturer at the Faculty of Behavioural and Movement Sciences of the VU.

From 1 January 2021, Naomi van Stapele has started as new Inclusive Education professor The Hague University of Applied Sciences. Naomi worked as a Diversity & Inclusion Chair and Assistant Professor of Urban Governance and Development Policy at the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS / EUR). 

Naomi has a clear vision of inclusive education and a vivid picture of how this can be further shaped within THUAS. She has demonstrable affinity with our city and our divers intitution. With a cum laude for her PhD research, her contribution to the many national and international scientific cooperation projects in the field of inclusive education and her extensive experience in practice-oriented research and teh supervising of PhD students, Naomi is a worthy successor for former lecturer Aminata Cairo.

Dr. Barbara Warwas has been employed at THUAS since 2016 in roles as coordinator and lecturer at the International and European Law Programme. In 2018 she was appointed as Professor of Multilevel Regulation. In 2019, she additionally became the Director of the Global Governance Centre of Expertise. Barbara is the author of The Liability of Arbitral Institutions: Legitimacy Challenges and Functional Responses published by Springer, 2016. In 2014, she worked as a drafter, researcher, and administrator for the ground-breaking study on the Legal Instruments and Practices of Arbitration in the EU and Switzerland, commissioned by the European Parliament. Barbara has a PhD in Law from the European University Institute (Florence, Italy). Prior to joining The Hague University of Applied Sciences, Barbara worked as visiting counsel in the litigation department at GE Oil & Gas in Florence and in the Italian law firm Studio Legale Calabresi Guadalupi.

Sylvia’s research focuses on multi-level governance issues in the areas of climate change adaptation (especially heatwaves), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and public safety, climate change policing and environmental crime, as well as future professionals’ skills to achieve the SDGs. She is also associate professor at Erasmus University Rotterdam.
