Immigration Procedures for Exchange students
Procedure for EU/EEA students
Please make sure you have a valid passport or identity card before you travel to the Netherlands. Make sure this is valid 3 months after your exchange period is over.
Students from EU/EEA countries are not required to apply for a residence permit, nor are they required to register with the Dutch Immigration Office (IND).
Procedure for students from non-EU/EEA countries
Applicable to the following countries: Australia, Canada, Japan, Monaco, New Zealand, South Korea, the U.S.A., the United Kingdom or Vatican City
You need a residence permit for the purpose of study in the Netherlands. The International Office of The Hague University of Applied Sciences (THUAS) has to apply for this permit on your behalf. For this, it is essential we receive all required documents and payments before the deadline via the Osiris online platform (documents through email cannot be accepted).
Please make sure you:
- have a passport that is valid 3 months after your exchange period is over
- transfer the applicable fees before the deadline
- upload the required documents in our online application platform. This includes a signed Antecedent's declaration and proof of sufficient financial means (and possibly a financial guarantee form)
- proof of sufficient financial means for the academic year 2024-2025 should be at least €1.217,96 per month (or rounded to €1300,00 per month to be safe)
Procedure
After receiving and approving all required documents and payments, the International Office of The Hague University of Applied Sciences will apply for your Health Insurance (if applicable) and for your residence permit for the purpose of study at the Dutch Immigration Service (IND).
After arrival in The Netherlands, you will be informed via the International Office when and where you can collect your residence permit and/or give off biometrics required by the IND. You can travel to the Netherlands without an entry visa.
The International Office will also organize a moment where international students can register themselves at the municipality of The Hague as well as pick up your residence permit or give off your biometrics.
For students who are obliged to participate in a tuberculosis-check (TB) as part of the residence permit application, the International Office will make an appointment with the local health authorities.
Please note that The Hague University of Applied Sciences only acts as an intermediary between you and the Dutch Immigration Service (IND). We have no influence whatsoever on the outcome or speed of the procedure.
Cancellation
Please note that the visa application fees are non-refundable.
