For whom is the writing coaching intended?

The Language Point Writing Coaching is open to all students of English programs at The Hague University of Applied Sciences.

What is writing coaching?

A writing coach helps you write study texts. Together with the writing coach, you discuss the writing process, the assignment, the text and/or the feedback you have received on your text. Your learning question is leading. In a one-to-one conversation of about 45 minutes, the writing coach will ask critical questions that will help you move forward. The skills you have acquired can be used again in subsequent writing tasks. This is how you become strong with language. A meeting can take place face to face at school or online via Microsoft Teams.

When do you use writing coaching?

You can use writing coaching if you want someone to look at the writing task you are working on with you. For example, you may:

• want to go over the outline;
• don't know quite how to get your thoughts on paper;
• find it difficult to process your tutor's feedback;
• want to get from a failing grade to a passing grade;
• you just want to write the best text possible!

What does the writing coach (not) do?

The writing coach is a (master's) student who is strong in a language and has been trained as a writing coach. He or she prepares the conversation based on your text and your questions. The coach helps you, for instance, to tackle the writing task efficiently, argue clearly, formulate the core message sharply, structure a text clearly or find an appropriate style.

The writing coach does not correct the content of your work or correct spelling and grammar mistakes. You are (and remain) the author of the piece and you yourself are responsible for the final result.

Making an appointment

You can make an appointment via the application form. After receiving the application form, one of the writing coaches will contact you to schedule an appointment. After the first meeting, you can make an appointment for a possible follow-up meeting in consultation with the coach. In principle, you can visit as often as necessary to answer your learning question.

Registrations are processed from Monday to Friday (excluding school holidays). Please note that you must send us the text you wish to discuss at least 24 hours in advance ([email protected]). We cannot schedule an appointment for the day we receive the application.
